What is the Political Courage Test?

New York Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
believes Women's Rights belong to women and institutions need to respect their choices and the Hyde Amendment should be fully repealed. Having reproductive freedom is essential to overall health of cisgender women and trans people. Regardless of education or income, individuals should have access to to quality reproductive healthcare services including safe and legal abortions, birth control, family planning services, and affordable pre- and post- natal care.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I support imposing the heaviest taxes on the wealthiest Americans with a 70/30% marginal tax rate. In the richest nation in the world, the people with the greatest amount of wealth should reinvest to into our communities to bring racial and socio-economical justice.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Under our current system, corporations, industry lobbyists, and ultra-wealthy individuals get more of a say in legislative process than regular Americans. This is why people turn out to vote in such low numbers; it feels like even if we do participate, our voices are drowned out by dirty money. We will not have a truly fair system until all corporate money is removed from the political process. I believe we must overturn Citizens United, abolish super PACS, and only allow small dollar donations and public funding of elections.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
We need to divest defense spending, end forever wars, and withdraw US military presence in other nations. We can be an ally to other nations by helping them become independent and strong nations without imposing US imperialism.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
I support financial relief to small business owners without any incentives for corporations and big businesses. I believe small businesses should forgo filing taxes next year to give them time to rebuild from their losses.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I believe in nationalizing public education to eliminate disparities between poor and affluent communities and a single standard for math, science, and reading.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We need to eliminate carbon emissions, facilitate the complete transfer to renewable eco-friendly technology like wind, wave, and solar; and reinvent our aging power grid. All while ensuring that Black, indigenous, and low income communities, who experience the brunt of environmental risk and industry pollution, are the first to benefit from this new economy. We need to create green jobs, and provide the special training those jobs will require. This jobs boost will directly benefit our community, and the national economy as well.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Passing universal background checks would be a good start, but does not do enough. The average background check takes only 108 seconds. That is not enough time to determine the mental health condition of a purchaser, or to assess the intention of the buyer. That is why we must pass a system of comprehensive universal licensing. This system would mandate that applicants take a firearms safety course, submit a permit application through their local police department where they directly check local law enforcement and mental health agencies, contact references, and run your fingerprints.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Yes Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
I support a Medicare for All system, to guarantee healthcare for every person regardless of status and income. We need Universal Paid Sick Leave to ensure every family is supported without any financial loss and have the ability to access testing and treatment.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I support abolishing ICE and returning to the pre-2003 system of processing criminal and civil cases separately to ensure all people, regardless of citizenship, are treated with compassion and dignity. Displaced veterans should also be able to come back to the US and receive VA benefits.
No Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
I believe all people including Israelis and Palestinians should have equal rights. The US continued support of any government not abiding by international human right laws are subject to human rights violations. With millions of lives lost, the people in the Middle East are exhausted from the conflict and seek peace. The people of Palestine have not only been displaced from their homes but are classified as second-class citizens in the region. Palestinians should be protected as equal citizens with equal rights.
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I am for trade under conditions such as trading with nations who will protect workers' rights, end globalization, and build businesses in the US to keep jobs at home.
I will fighter for homeowners and tenants because housing is a human right. Working families should be bailed out and protected with a Universal Income and Medicare for All. We need to address systemic racism in this country through reparations and investing in housing, healthcare, and education and less on on policing to improve the quality of life in our communities.
